Project overview
Detailed mapping and measurement of the platform, track, and lineside equipmentstation building and station car park. This includes:
– Establish and survey a control network
– Prepare a Digital 3D Topographical Model
– Identification of all utilities on or near the line, in the platforms, and in the carpark using Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) technology. This includes mapping and identification of underground utilities and services to provide accurate data for construction and excavation planning
Project brief
PUM Carried out survey in extents of 1,2km on track survey along with station car park survey of the area. To allow for design of the new platform extension.
Our approach
To create accurate model of the topography of the existing track and achieve high accuracy requirements of the railway lines survey we have utilise traditional surveying methods as Total station, GPS along with terrestrial laser scanner. Given the limited working hours available during the T3 possession, efficiency was a key. To optimise productivity, we deployed the GEDO IMS scanning system, enabling rapid and comprehensive data capture of the railway tracks within the restricted timeframe. This approach ensured both survey accuracy and operational efficiency, aligning with industry best practices and client expectations.
- Liaise with IR rail to manage safe access on the railway track
- Deploy Topographical survey team to Establish ground markers and carry out control network survey.
- Utilise GEDO IMS scanning system to capture entire route and track information as position, cant, track gauge, twist
- Survey of the remaining detail assets as welds, markers, overgrown areas with Total station/GPS
- Prepare a digital 3D topographical and Utility model using N4ce software.
Results
- Both surveys were delivered to the required quality levels which allowed our client to producing design of the new station.
